Land Management and Works Update

  • Powerline pruning by Western Power contractor has been completed
  • Weed control ongoing, slowed down by rain and Covid effected contractor staff
  • A dead flame tree near the end of Tait Place is being assessed. There is a risk of limbs falling on people, path and/or fence. Smaller branches to be mulched and trunk/large limbs left for habitat. The tree is being assessed by DPIRD for Shot Hole Borer, until this is finished no work can be done.
  • Limestone path will soon be re-rolled by the contractor to repair damage done by water truck
  • Fox, cat and rabbit control conducted
  • Seven large signs reskinned with updated/improved map and text
  • Hole in gate fixed in Hope Road North to exclude rabbits
  • 43,000 seedlings (see image below) have started to be planted by contractor, along with school and community planting events
  • Trialling the use of mesh sapling guards on 4,700 seedlings planted in Turtle Corner
  • Survival of 2021 seedlings was approximately 40%, likely due to Perth’s hottest summer on record
