Noongar Weaving Workshop

Community members joined local Whadjuk Noongar artist Sharyn Egan to learn about traditional animal totems and the importance to the Noongar community and were given the chance to create their own totems!

The totems were created using straw and wool, providing attendees an opportunity to connect to country and discover binding and wrapping techniques.

Attendees created some masterpieces (see images below) with some animal totems chosen including local residents to the corridor such as the snake-necked turtle (Chelodina oblonga), bobtail lizard (Tiliqua rugosa) and Carnaby’s black cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus latirostris).
